Oil sands: Alberta 2006 - Projects, participants and market opportunities ... Since the mid 1990s, more than $US 15 billion has been invested in oil sands, either to expand existing projects or develop new ones. From 2002 to 2010 another $US 15 billion in investment is on the books for potential development. This third edition of Utilis Energy’s extensive study  takes a detailed look at the rapidly growing Albertan oil sands industry. The oil sands development and production information contained in this edition is based on primary surveys and secondary research and is the most up-to-date information available regarding oil sands project development and the production of bitumen and synthetic crude oil. North American LNG 2006 - Market and technology analysis ... While it is commonly known that the US has imported the majority of its crude oil for some time, it is a lesser known fact that US natural gas production has been unable to keep pace with domestic demand and that incremental increases in natural gas imports from Canada are not expected to offset future demand growth. Such market fundamentals, in addition to recent price increases, create a favorable environment for increased imports of LNG. However, greater reliance on LNG is stymied by the lack of sufficient capacity at US regasification terminals. Only five such terminals are currently operating in the US and regulatory hurdles and opposition from both public and private bodies has hindered the construction of additional regasification infrastructure. This study explores the latest developments in the US LNG market and its increasingly important role for America’s energy security. The study also considers other issues and provides a detailed evaluation of new offshore regas technologies. Order your copy today!

Coal Gasificiation 2006 - Roadmap to commmericialization ... Coal gasification offers one of the most clean and versatile ways to convert the energy contained in coal into electricity, hydrogen, and other sources of power. Turning coal into synthetic gas isn't a new concept, in fact the basic technology dates back to World War II. During the gasification process, coal is subjected to heat, pressure, and steam - catalysts, breaking the coal down into various gases, mostly hydrogen. The resulting gases can then be burned to generate electricity and the waste heat created by the process used for cogeneration. This report provides an introduction to coal gasification technology and its ability to unlock the huge energy reserves found in coal in an environmentally responsible manner. Working gasification projects in the private and public sector are discussed and recommendations are offered to provide a “roadmap” for the continued successful commercialization of this technology.
