COURSE DESCRIPTION: Numerous studies have shown that “when you change the supervisor, you change the results.” It’s true for all areas of business, including safety. Effective leaders simply do things differently – they communicate better, they coach better, they inspire better, they model behavior better. But how do they do it, and can it be learned by others? The answer is yes.

President Dwight Eisenhower said that true leadership involves “Getting people to do what you want them to do… because THEY want to.” That’s exactly what your team will learn in this program.

We asked Dr. Scott Geller, one of the nation’s top safety leadership experts, to outline the principles and action steps that successful leaders practice daily to achieve an injury-free workplace. This 60-minute presentation will cover:
  • How leaders use language to increase their influence and maximize “buy-in”
  • How to move safety leadership from “rules-based” compliance to “principle-based” commitment
  • The difference between raising the bar through expectations and demanding obedience through mandates
  • Why it is critical to replace the “Golden Rule” with the “Platinum Rule”
  • How to deal with people who make excuses or blame others for their behavior
  • How to give rewarding and correcting feedback with skill
  • Why leaders move away from failure-avoidance and toward success-seeking
  • The vital difference between safety training and safety education
  • 7 keys to using self-persuasion to create lasting behavior change
  • The 3 beliefs that determine any employee’s level of empowerment
  • How to start using the DO-IT model of people-powered leadership (Define, Observe, Intervene, Test)
  • The 12 mental shifts leaders need to make to maximize safety results
