COURSE DESCRIPTION: Employers beware: Social media have created tricky new legal problems for companies. HR executives need to lead the way by implementing a sound policy to regulate the use of Twitter, Facebook, My Space, Linkedin and Blogs.

A good policy can prevent disasters such as these:

Putting your company data at risk. Employees have posted sensitive company data on their Facebook or My Space sites
Damaging your reputation. Employees have committed cyber crimes (e.g., posting child pornography) on social networking sites that identify them as employees of your company
Legal liability associated with vehicle accidents. A recent study showed it’s more dangerous to drive while text messaging than driving drunk
Cyber attacks. A study by the security firm Sophos showed that a quarter of businesses have been the victim of spam, phishing or malware attacks via sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace.
