COURSE DESCRIPTION: Employers beware: Social media have created tricky new legal problems for companies. HR executives need to lead the way by implementing a sound policy to regulate the use of Twitter, Facebook, My Space, Linkedin and Blogs.
    
A good policy can prevent disasters such as these:
  • Putting your company data at risk. Employees have posted sensitive company data on their Facebook or My Space sites
  • Damaging your reputation. Employees have committed cyber crimes (e.g., posting child pornography) on social networking sites that identify them as employees of your company
  • Legal liability associated with vehicle accidents. A recent study showed it’s more dangerous to drive while text messaging than driving drunk
  • Cyber attacks. A study by the security firm Sophos showed that a quarter of businesses have been the victim of spam, phishing or malware attacks via sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace.
