Dell SonicWall reported that in the first 3 quarters of 2018, ransomware attacks increased by 117% over the previous year in that same timeframe. Security company Carbon Black reported that over $6 Million in Ransomware software to facilitate ransomware was sold between cybercriminals online in 2016. These sales are causing increases in fraud, which the FBI estimates at around 6 Billion globally in losses. Specific case studies like FedEx have claimed a $300M loss in their 4th quarter 2017 financial report from ransomware infections.
