Gain a better understanding of the reporting and documentation requirements of expense reimbursements for nonprofits.

Many nonprofit organizations provide expense reimbursement to directors, officers, employees and other volunteers, but fail to recognize the importance of ensuring that such payments are made in accordance with federal tax requirements including certain rules that could cause penalties to be assessed against the individual.

This topic will assist nonprofit organizations to understand the importance of adopting a written expense reimbursement policy including what constitutes an expense that qualifies for reimbursement as well as what documentation should be maintained so that the individual does not have to pay payroll taxes on the payments, the payment does not need to be reported to the IRS and the individual will not have to include the payments in his or her taxable income.
